United are now moving onto other targets

The Brighton star is expected to be significantly more expensive having recently extended his contract until 2028 but United feel a fee of £80m would be justified for a player of the Ecuadorian’s potential.

report enquiries have been made for two other targets in Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus and Taylor Booth of FC Utrecht.

Kudus, 22, starred under Erik ten Hag at Ajax before the manager’s move to Manchester last year and has been linked with a number of Premier League sides with Brighton also joining the race for his signature.

USA international Booth, also 22, scored twice and provided four assists in 23 Eredivisie appearances last season as Utrecht finished in seventh place.

Ten Hag has made Mount a top transfer target having been keen on working with the 24-year-old for a number of years, having originally caught his eye during his loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem.

United have left their latest £55m offer on the table but the move remains at an impasse, left frustrated with Chelsea’s demands.

It comes as Chelsea agreed a fee of £30m for Mateo Kovacic with Manchester City after relatively hassle-free negotiations. The Croatian is another in the final year of his contract in west London.
