have begun talks with for defender Benjamin Pavard, with the Frenchman interested in a move away from the Bundesliga.

The Red Devils are not finished in the transfer market just yet and want to bring in a defender after agreeing a fee to sell to .

Pavard is one of Erik ten Hag’s key targets in defence, capable of playing right-back or centre-back.

The 27-year-old only has one year left on his contract with Bayern and, according to , he is keen to move to a different league so will not be renewing his contract with the German champions.

There has been no official bid from Manchester United yet, and Bayern Munich are yet to sign-off on Pavard leaving so there is plenty to do before the former Stuttgart man will be moving to Old Trafford.

Pavard has been at Bayern since 2019 and has been a regular face in the first team since then, making 162 appearances for the Bundesliga champions in all competitions, scoring 12 goals along the way.

The World Cup-winning France international is likely to warrant a bid of around £30m, which would help Bayern recoup some of the substantial fee they forked out for Harry Kane.

Manchester United get their Premier League campaign underway on Monday night at home to Wolves, who will be playing under new manager Gary O’Neill for the first time.

Ten Hag is likely to hand Premier League debuts to Mason Mount and Andre Onana, although Rasmus Hojlund is injured and will have to wait to pull on a Manchester United shirt for the first time.
