manager sent a message of support to Cristiano and his family, describing the tragic death of his baby son as ‘the worst thing that can happen.’

Ronaldo announced on Monday that he and partner Georgina Rodriguez suffered the heart-breaking loss of their baby boy during childbirth.

Rodriguez was giving birth to twins and their daughter survived, but tragically their son did not.

The 37-year-old is understandably not involved on Tuesday night as Manchester United travel to take on Liverpool in the Premier League but Rangnick is thinking of his star striker and the pain he must be going through.

‘Yes of course this is the worst thing that can happen,’ Rangnick told Sky Sports of the horrific news for Ronaldo and Rodriguez.

‘I am the father of two sons myself, so I’m fully aware what that means.

‘We’re all behind him, we’re all with him and we wish him and his family that they are strong together.’

Manchester United as a club paid tribute to the Portuguese superstar and his family earlier on Tuesday when they confirmed that Ronaldo would not be involved at Anfield.

‘Family is more important than everything and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time,’ read a statement.

‘As such, we can confirm that he will not feature in the match against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening and we underline the family’s request for privacy.

‘Cristiano, we are all thinking of you and sending strength to the family.’
