Marko Arnautovic would be more use to Manchester United than at the moment, reckons former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Arnautovic emerged as a surprise target for the Red Devils this summer, with United launching a bid for the Bologna striker which the Italian club rejected.

The pursuit of the 33-year-old quickly fizzled out after stunned reaction from fans and pundits alike who were baffled by the interest in the former Stoke and forward.

Agbonlahor has looked at it from a different angle, though, and reckons the Austrian would be a good addition to Erik ten Hag’s squad.

The former England international chose to pick on Sancho as an example of a player that has been underperforming at United and feels that Arnautovic would be an improvement on the struggling winger.

‘I don’t know who United fans think they are,’ the former striker said on talkSPORT Breakfast.

‘Arnautovic makes that United squad a better squad. They’ve got to stop living in the Fergie years. are now a club that can’t attract top players.

‘There’s talk about ‘let’s look to the future, let’s look at younger players’. They’ve done that with Sancho and he can’t take anyone on. He gets the ball and then passes it back to [Diogo] Dalot. He can’t head, he doesn’t attack players and get past players.

‘Look at the wingers Manchester United have had in the past. [Antonio] Valencia… he used to run and take players on, get crosses in. Even Nani was outstanding for United, taking players on and getting crosses in.

‘Jadon Sancho doesn’t do that now. I’d rather have Arnautovic in my Manchester United team than Jadon Sancho at the moment.’
