’s players are reportedly furious after the club made a new contract offer that would see the midfielder become the highest-paid player at Old Trafford.
reports that United’s hierarchy are willing to hand the 29-year-old a deal worth up to £500,000-a-week, more than current top earner , in an effort to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer.
The offer has angered the rest of the Red Devils squad, however, who do not believe Pogba has earned the lucrative contract due to his lacklustre performances this season and lack of commitment to the club.
A source inside the club has said: ‘Some of the players think it’s out of order he could be getting twice as much as they are when he hardly starts a game and talks about leaving all the time.’
Pogba came through United’s academy but departed for Juventus on a free transfer in 2012, going on to establish himself as one of the world’s best young midfielders and winning four consecutive Serie A titles.
United bought the French World Cup winner back in 2016 for a then-world record £89million, and he had a fairly successful first season back in England, winning the League Cup and Europa League under Jose Mourinho.
However, the club have failed to win any silverware since and while he has shown flashes of brilliance, including being named in the 2019 PFA Team of the Year, Pogba has simply not lived up to expectations.
He is out of contract at the end of this season and while the club appear keen to extend his stay in Manchester, his refusal to sign a new deal hints that he is ready to move on, with Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and former club Juventus all interested in his services.
United, though, have previously made it clear that any decisions on buying and selling players are on hold until they have appointed their next permanent manager.
There may not be long to wait on that front however, after it was revealed on Tuesday that Ajax boss Erik ten Hag had agreed a deal in principle to take over the reins at Old Trafford on a four-year-deal.
