are optimistic of completing a deal with for after they intimated that they will improve their £55m offer for the midfielder.
Chelsea have turned down three bids from United for the 24-year-old, the latest of which was £50m with £5m of add-ons.
United felt that was already a generous offer for a player that is out of contract in 12 months’ time and told Chelsea they will not be increasing their offer.
Chelsea responded by requesting £58m with £7m in add-ons, but talks ended as United considered their £55m bid to be their last offer.
However, Chelsea accept that Mount’s future is over at Stamford Bridge and want a resolution before the midfielder returns to pre-season training on Monday.
The Daily Mail say talks have re-opened between both clubs and while United will not pay the £65m that Chelsea are demanding, they will fractionally improve their bid to get a deal done.
United are now optimistic that Mount will become their first signing of the summer.
Erik ten Hag wanted an energetic midfielder to compete with Christian Eriksen in the engine room, as he felt the Dane’s performances dipped towards the end of the season.
Once Mount’s move is completed, United will focus on signing Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
David De Gea’s contract expires at the end of the week and he looks set to leave on a free transfer.
