have decided to reignite their move for just days after walking away from a deal and will hold fresh talks with , according to reports.

Last week, the Red Devils made a third and final, worth £50million plus £5m in add-ons for the England international and threatened to end talks if it was not accepted.

On Friday evening, Chelsea rejected the bid and put forward a counter proposal worth £57m plus £8m in add-ons – a fee that United feel is far too much for a player with one year left on his contract.

The west Londoners offered to hold face-to-face talks with United to try and find a compromise, but it initially appeared that the Carabao Cup winners would follow through on their threat to walk away.

Immediately reports surfaced claiming United were moving onto other targets – – though would leave their £55m offer for Mount on the table.

Now are reporting that the Old Trafford hierarchy have had a change of heart and are willing to return to the negotiating table after all.

Although they are still adamant they do not want to pay more than £55m for the 24-year-old, they are willing to negotiate over the structure and finer points of the deal.

United and Chelsea bosses will meet this week – either face-to-face or via a video call – to see if they can find common ground and finally get a deal over the line.

Pre-season for both clubs starts next week and there is a feeling from all parties that the situation needs to be resolved before Mount is required to report back to Cobham.

Chelsea do not want an unhappy player on their hands, or to still be haggling over a fee, while Erik ten Hag is keen to bring in the midfielder in time for him to take part in pre-season and adapt to his philosophy and style.

Despite the impasse, United are still hopeful that a deal can be wrapped up quickly enough that Mount will not need to report back to pre-season training with Chelsea.

Interestingly, as an alternative to Mount might have softened Chelsea’s stance, with the west Londoners also looking to sign the Ecuadorian.

The Blues want to avoid a bidding war over the Brighton midfielder – who is likely to cost around £80m – and they know that they will have a free run at his signature if United sign Mount, with Arsenal also cooling their interest as they close in on Declan Rice.
