have brought in goalkeeper Kie Plumley on a free transfer after the youngster left Oxford United at the end of last season.
The 20-year-old was released by Oxford United earlier this year without making a senior appearance for the League One club.
He spent loan spells at West-Super Mare and Beaconsfield, but now finds himself at Manchester United,
Plumley reportedly grew up as a Manchester United fan, so it will certainly be dream come true for the young ‘keeper, even if any first team opportunities seem extremely unlikely, to say the least.
There has been much change in Manchester United’s goalkeeping department this summer, with David De Gea, Dean Henderson, Matej Kovar and Nathan Bishop all leaving the club.
Tom Heaton remained, but he is now third choice again behind Andre Onana and Altay Bayındı, who have arrived from Inter Milan and Fenerbahce respectively.
Bayındı is firmly second choice, but is likely to get his chance to impress early next year when Onana goes to play for Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations.
AFCON was delayed due to adverse summer weather concerns in the Ivory Coast and is set to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
United are set to face Tottenham, Wolves, West Ham and Aston Villa in the Premier League during that period – meaning Onana could miss all those games.
FA Cup ties are also due to be played from January 6-7 and January 27-28, meaning Onana may not be present for those matches either.
It could get even worse for the Red Devils if they qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League and Cameroon do well at the African tournament, as United’s first-leg tie could be played just 48 hours after the AFCON showpiece.
Onana would also be almost certain to miss both legs of the Carabao Cup semi-finals too should United make it that far, meaning in a worst-case scenario Erik ten Hag’s side would have to play a total of nine matches without the goalkeeper.
