forward will miss the next two-and-a-half months of action after undergoing surgery on his groin.
The striker hasn’t appeared for the club since the 3-0 defeat to on December 9th, when he was taken off after 56 minutes.
Martial, who is out of contract in July, hasn’t completed 90 minutes for the club this season.
In a statement today, the club confirmed the 28-year-old Frenchman will miss the next 10 weeks after undergoing an operation.
‘Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has completed successful surgery to address a groin complaint and will be out of action for about 10 weeks as he rehabilitates,’ a statement read.
‘We wish Anthony a speedy recovery and look forward to his return.’
United opted against triggering a 12-month extension clause in Martial’s contract in December, meaning he’s free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs.
The club could still open talks with Martial over a new deal but it’s likely that he will be released at the end of the season.
Martial has scored twice in 19 appearances this term.
He joined the club from Monaco in 2015 for an initial fee of £36m, which could rise to as much as £58m.
