Edinson Cavani’s career is close to ending, with the veteran striker on the cusp of agreeing a move to La Liga side Real Sociedad.
The Uruguay striker was a resounding success during his first season at Old Trafford, scoring 17 times following a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.
However, he’s been ravaged by injury this term and many supporters have questioned his commitment to the club.
Cavani’s contract expires at the end of the season and there’s little appetite from either side for the veteran to extend his stay in the north-west.
It had been expected that Cavani would return to South America, given his desire to be closer to his homeland.
River Plate and Boca Juniors both came close to signing Cavani last summer but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer convinced him to stay put for a further 12 months.
But the Sun now claim Cavani wants to remain in Europe and is close to agreeing a move to Real Sociedad.
The La Liga club were comprehensibly beaten by United during last season’s Europa League campaign but Cavani believes he can still compete in Europe.
Cavani is likely to be joined by Anthony Martial in leaving the club, while there’s huge uncertainty over Mason Greenwood’s future.
United are therefore likely to buy a new striker in the summer to supplement Cristiano Ronaldo, who turns 38 next February.
