The Cameroonian was at Manchester Airport this afternoon to catch a flight to the , where he will link-up with his new team-mates before Saturday’s friendly against Arsenal in .

United have spent the last three weeks working on a deal for Onana, who has penned a five-year deal following Inter’s decision to accept a £44m offer from the Red Devils.

An official confirmation of Onana’s arrival is expected this afternoon but United have already started on their next move.

Erik ten Hag has made no secret of his desperation to sign a striker following United’s reliance on Marcus Rashford last season. Wout Weghorst, a January loan signing from Burnley, managed just two goals in 29 appearances.

The Dutchman’s first choice is Rasmus Hojlund, who was identified following Tottenham’s insistence that they would not listen to offers for Harry Kane.

Atalanta are believed to be seeking around £86m for the Dane, while United value him at little over half of that.

There remains significant work to be done in order to strike a deal, which has raised fears from supporters that they could enter the new season with the injury-prone Anthony Martial leading the line.

But the say the arrival of a striker is ‘only a matter of time’ and that even if a move for Hojlund does not materialise, United will sign a different forward.

Kolo Muani, the France forward, is another target and United have held tentative talks with Frankfurt over a transfer.

However, the striker is on Bayern Munich’s shortlist if they fail to push through a deal for Kane with Tottenham.
