‘He knows we believe in him, we’ve got great faith in him as the next Michael Carrick.
‘I know he’s young and I know it’s not fair on kids to compare to great players like Michael was, but he’s the same mould, he plays simple passes, plays through the lines.’
In a Q&A with fans last week, Bruno Fernandes named Garner as the academy player he is most looking forward to playing alongside at United.
Garner has also received praise from his teammates at Nottingham Forest, with Jack Colback claiming that the 21-year-old has the ability to become a Premier League player.
‘For me he’s got all the attributes needed,’ Colback told the
‘He’s very good on the ball, technically his passing range is excellent but he’s also got the other side of that, which is defensively I think he doesn’t get the credit, but he’s really good defensively, he covers a lot, gets a lot of tackles in and you need that.
‘Like any player you’ve got to keep your head down, keep working, never think that you’ve done enough, but Jimmy will have as good a chance as anyone.’
