Manchester United have paid tribue to Tommy Møller Nielsen after the senior scout at the club tragically died at 61 years old.
Nielsen’s wife confirmed the news on Monday and the Red Devils issued a statement on the death of the Dane who joined the club in 2016.
A club statement read: ‘ is deeply saddened by the death of Tommy Møller Nielsen, a senior scout for the club since 2016.
‘Tommy was a highly respected member of our scouting team, valued for his experience and knowledge gained from over 30 years in coaching and scouting positions in Scandinavia and Scotland.
‘Everyone at the club sends our sincerest condolences to Tommy’s family and we are in touch with them to offer any support possible at this incredibly difficult time.’
Nielsen had a playing career from 1979-91 before taking on a variety of roles in his post-playing days, including managing the likes of Viborg and HB Koge and coaching in Scotland at Rangers and Aberdeen.
He played for Danish side OB and went on to coach the team, with their statement on Monday reading: ‘It is with deep sadness that we have received the message that the former first team player and OB ambassador Tommy Møller Nielsen has passed away.
‘All our thoughts go out to Tommy’s family and friends at this difficult time.’
Tommy’s father Richard Møller Nielsen managed Denmark to their stunning win at the 1992 European Championships and would go on to take charge of Finland and Israel after six years managing the Danes.
No details have been confirmed on Møller Nielsen’s cause of death at this stage.
