is aiming to become ’s record goal-scorer, and says that the man who currently holds that accolade is willing him on to achieve it.

has scored more goals for the Red Devils than anyone else, nettinga remarkable 253 times in his immense spell at the club from 20014-17.

Rahsford still has a long way to catch up with his former teammate, having scored 123 goals for his boyhood club, but after his best scoring season so far, he is feeling confident.

The 25-year-old scored 30 goals in all competitions over the last campaign, the first time he hit the milestone in a single season and he is already thinking about toppling Rooney.

In fact, the United and England legend is rooting for the current star and hopes he can claim the record before he hangs up his boots.

‘Hopefully, hopefully yeah,’ Rashford told about claiming the record for himself. ‘You never know what’s going to happen but I;m all about scoring goals and trying to make assists. There’s definitely a chance that it can happen.

‘I’ve actually spoke to Wazza [Rooney] about it and he wants me to do it. He said it would be good for me to do it because I’ve grown up at the club and stuff like that.

‘Hopefully I get the opportunity to try and make it happen.’

Rashford is currently 18th on Manchester United’s all-time record goal-scorers list, but could make rapid progress in the season to come.

If he could replicate last season’s form and score 30 goals then he would shoot up to number 11, ahead of Ruud van Nistelrooy and only two goals behind Paul Scholes in 10th.

Immediately ahead of Rashford is his former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who scored 126 times for the Red Devils.
