defender Eric Bailly is close to completing a loan move to Marseille, with an agreement between the clubs reached.

The Premier League and Ligue 1 sides have settled on a loan with an option to buy for the 28-year-old, with personal terms still to be agreed, according to transfer expert .

That is not expected to be much of a stumbling block, though, with the Ivorian keen to seek out first team football elsewhere after being frozen out at Old Trafford.

The centre-back made just four Premier League appearances last season and has not been involved yet this season.

New United manager Erik ten Hag has brought in Lisandro Martinez at centre-back and Bailly is now behind the Argentinian, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof in the pecking order in his favoured position.

Bailly has been at Manchester United for six years now, signing from Villarreal in 2016 for £30m, but he has only made 70 Premier League appearances since then, often struggling to stay fit and maintain a spot in the first team.

His contract at Old Trafford runs until 2024, with the club holding an option for a further year, but it may well be that he has already played his last game for the Red Devils.

Bailly is not the only centre-back at Old Trafford who looks to have little chance of making it into the first team.

Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe also remain at the club despite links to moves away, with the latter linked to teams in Turkey, Italy and the Premier League but nothing coming of it yet.
