Memphis Depay speaks out on his Barcelona future amid Manchester United transfer speculation

is unhappy at his lack of playing time at Barcelona but insists he is willing to stay and fight for his place.

The departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Chelsea on deadline day appeared to offer the 28-year-old a lifeline at Barcelona, but he has been reduced to a bit-part role and has made only three appearances so far this term and failed to complete 90 minutes.

Speaking to ESPN and  whilst on international duty, Depay said: ‘I had two starts in the last two weeks in La Liga. It is not enough. I went off after 60 minutes but I want more.

‘In the last 25 minutes of the match there are more spaces and there is always an opportunity to take advantage of that.

‘I love competition and I do not run from it. I love being at Barcelona.

‘Other clubs knocked at my door and I looked at my options. I decided to stay and fight for my chance at Barcelona.’

Depay was not the only Barcelona star linked with a move to the Premier League during the close season with Frenkie de Jong’s future also a matter of intense speculation.

The former Ajax midfielder was coveted by both United and Chelsea but ultimately remained at Camp Nou.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s Nations League game against Poland, he said: ‘I can’t give too much details away.

‘But look.. the club has it’s own idea’s and I have my own idea’s too and sometimes this clashes with each other.

‘But at the end of the day things went okay.’
