’s career was blighted by the fact that the German had ‘problems with everyone’ he encountered.

That’s according to former Gunners team-mate Nacho Monreal, who says the German even fell out with towards the end of the Frenchman’s time at the Emirates.

Ozil, 33, left the Gunners in 2021 for Fenerbahce after seven years in north and he was a fans’ favourite for much of the time.

The World Cup winner was Arsenal’s record signing for four years following his £42.5m move from Real Madrid in 2013.

But things soured under Unai Emery and then worsened under Mikel Arteta, who ostracised the German playmaker.

But while Ozil’s troubles with Arteta are well known, Monreal says the German had run-ins with practically ‘everyone’ during his time at the club.

‘Ozil’s problem is that he had problems with everyone,’ Monreal told .

‘It ended badly with Wenger, he didn’t play the last few games with him, then Emery tried to bring him back and make him our leader.

‘To begin with, he gave him a lot of confidence and Mesut played a lot, but the coach understood there were other teammates who were in better condition. Ozil was one of the best players in the team, one of the best paid, but they saw he wasn’t at the level required.

‘As a person, he was good with everyone, but he also missed a lot of games through injury.’

Ozil’s time in Turkey has gone far from planned, with the midfielder recently suspended indefinitely’ from Fenerbahce’s squad following a bust-up with the team’s head coach Ismail Kartal.

The veteran complained about being taken off at half-time in a recent match but Kartal says Ozil’s fitness is not good enough and he’s unhappy with him criticising his tactics.
