Mikel Arteta has hailed the ‘incredible’ after the Arsenal star’s superb performance in the north derby win over Tottenham.
The Gunners captain capped a fine performance with a well-taken goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as his side eased to a 2-0 win over their arch-rivals on Sunday.
The visitors controlled the contest from the opening whistle, taking the lead after 14 minutes after Hugo Lloris spilled ’s cross into his own net.
Odegaard doubled the lead 20 minutes later, finding the bottom corner with a low effort from the edge of the box, his eighth goal of the season.
‘Terrific,’ Arteta said of his captain’s performance in his post-match press conference. ‘Especially in the first half, I think he was incredible.
‘He’s really showing a different kind of presence, the way he’s influencing the game, just the feeling, the way he moves, what he transmits on the pitch is different and today to do what he’s done here, it’s a big credit to him.’
The win sees Arsenal extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points after Manchester City suffered defeat against Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.
They welcome Erik ten Hag’s side to the Emirates next Sunday in another decisive game with confidence at an all-time high in the Arsenal dressing room.
‘It’s great, I’m going in the dressing room and just feeling the joy and the togetherness around the team and how much it meant for them,’ Arteta said.
‘It’s special and we know that here because of the way we play, the way we behave, the way we are and the way we live together and the unity that we have.
‘So we must not forget that, because tomorrow we must try to do exactly the same to carry on the form that we have at the moment.’
He added: ‘That is a great position to be in and let’s enjoy every single moment and let’s keep focusing.’
