says he will celebrate with some Chamomile tea tonight after becoming Liverpool’s all-time top goalscorer in the Premier League.

The Egyptian forward achieved the feat by bagging a brace during the 7-0 thrashing of at Anfield on Sunday.

His first strike in the 66th minute drew him level with Robbie Fowler’s tally of 128 goals, before his second just eight minutes before the end took him clear of the legendary striker whose record had stood since 2007.

Salah surpassing Fowler has felt inevitable since his debut season at Liverpool in 2017/18 when he scored a record-breaking 32 goals in a single campaign.

‘It’s very special, I can’t lie,’ the 30-year-old told Sky Sports. ‘This record was in my mind since I came here. After my first season I was always chasing the record.

‘To get it today against United with that result is unbelievable. I’m going home to celebrate with the family, Chamomile tea and sleep!’

Salah was showered with praise after the game, not least from his manager Jurgen Klopp who said: ‘129 goals, that is insane. What an unbelievable number.

‘He is a special player. We appreciate him now but in the future people will look back and be wow, we witnessed something really special.

‘It was all top performances today. That is very important for us – 13 games to come? A lot of points to go for. Tonight it was perfect.’

That result has moved Liverpool up to fifth in the table, just three points off Tottenham in fourth and with a game in hand.

‘It’s a fantastic day for everyone. The performance levels, every player was top quality. You could see the energy levels were back,’ Reds captain Jordan Henderson added.

‘We have shown recently we are on the path back. It’s a big win but we need to concentrate on the next game.

‘I’m really happy for Mo [Salah]. He dedicates his life to football. He is the first one in and the first one out.’
