Myhailo Mudryk’s former coach fears ’s new winger has made a mistake and should have joined Arsenal instead.
The international appeared destined to join the Premier League leaders last month having dropped several hints on social media that he was keen on a move to north .
Arsenal, however, struggled to agree a fee with Shakhtar Donetsk and for one of the most highly rated youngster in European football.
Mudryk hinted at his potential during an eye-catching debut as a second half substitute against Liverpool at Anfield last week during which he caused no end of problems for the likes of James Milner and his replacement .
The 22-year-old is likely to make his first start for the Blues against Fulham this evening but Andreas Carrasco, who coached Mudryk at youth level for Shakhtar, believes his career would have been better served by signing for Arsenal.
Andreas Carrasco told : ‘Today, Arsenal, with its style of play, could be more suitable for Mudryk, who successfully uses dribbling and plays one-on-one. It would be better for him, in my opinion.’
Mudryk is unlikely to be the only new face on show at Stamford Bridge this evening following Chelsea’s aggressive and unprecedented January recruitment drive.
Todd Boehly has thrown his financial weight behind Graham Potter who has been gifted eight new signings in the space of four chaotic weeks but the former Brighton boss insists he can cope with the pressure and expectation that accompanies a flurry of new additions.
He said: ‘Sometimes people can’t see things and that’s normal. From our perspective, we can see quite clearly in this window,” he said.
‘You look at the age of the players, where they are in their careers, a combination of the investment in the transfer fee and salary has made good sense for us and where we’re at.
‘We’ve got a hungry group of players who are ready to help the team now and also grow and grow as the club develops.
‘The players that we have signed, the age of them, we have changed the direction of the team to where they needed to go, it is now about making it function.’
