are keeping a close eye on ’s situation and could make a move for the loan star if they secure a top-four finish, according to reports.

The Portugal international fell out with boss Diego Simeone and moved to Stamford Bridge on loan in January, with the Spanish side believed to be keen to offload him permanently this summer.

Chelsea have been pleased with Felix’s impact since arriving, with the 23-year-old netting three times in the Premier League and generally impressing with his all-round play.

The west London club are , though their primary transfer focus is on securing a more orthodox number nine with a proven scoring record – a profile Felix does not exactly fit.

With Atletico demanding €100million (£87m), Chelsea may have to pass up on the opportunity to sign Felix permanently in order to prioritise more pressing areas of the squad – though it has been suggested they .

The former Benfica forward attracted plenty of interest in January when he was made available for loan – Arsenal, Manchester United and even Aston Villa were linked – and now a new name has emerged as a potential frontrunner for his signature.

The Magpies are currently in third place in the Premier League table, ahead of Manchester United on goal difference, but and are just one point behind – though have played a game more.

Felix is keen to play in Europe’s premier club competition next season and would consider a move to St James’ Park if they secure Champions League football.

Newcastle have largely spent quite sensibly since their mega-rich Saudi owners took over, with their £63m swoop for Alexander Isak the biggest deal sanctioned so far.

But a move for Felix would shatter their transfer record, with Atletico adamant they want £87m irrespective of the forward’s falling out with Simeone.

Newcastle would likely need to lay on a serious charm offensive to convince Felix to join, as well as handing him a lucrative salary.

The Magpies have dealt with Atletico recently, signing Kieran Trippier in January 2022, and share a good relationship.

Chelsea, meanwhile, might have been hoping no other clubs would show interest in Felix, forcing Atletico to lower their asking price, but Newcastle’s emergence may put to bed any hopes of the Portuguese forward staying at Stamford Bridge.
