intend to make a summer bid for goalkeeper Dean Henderson, as the England international is identified as one of their key targets in the coming transfer window.
The Magpies are expected to spend big over the summer, as manager Eddie Howe looks to use the enormous wealth of the club’s owners to start challenging for European football at St James’ Park.
There will be incomings in numerous positions, including goalkeeper, as Howe tried and failed to bring in a new stopper in the January window.
Henderson was one target on his list then and he will be of interest again this summer as Howe looks to upgrade on current ‘keepers Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow.
report that Henderson could be available for as little as £20m after something of a disastrous season at Old Trafford, during which he has failed to make a single Premier League appearance.
The 25-year-old has made just three appearances in all competitions all campaign, turning out once in the FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League.
Unless incoming Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag guarantees Henderson a place in the first team, he will be happy to move to pursue first team football and regain a spot in the England squad.
After the superb form of David De Gea all season, it seems unlikely that Ten Hag will choose to ditch the Spaniard in favour of the Englishman.
Also high on Newcastle’s list of targets this summer is Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
The 29-year-old was being pursued by West Ham, but report that the Hammers have pulled out of the race as they expect him to join Newcastle.
