Dan Ashworth, Newcastle’s Sporting Director, says he’s happy at the club amid speculation that he could join Manchester United.
Ashworth helped transform Brighton into the club that they are today during his stint on the south coast as the Seagulls’ technical director.
Newcastle then appointed him in 2022, and he helped the club to qualify for the last term.
praised Ashworth in a tweet last week, saying he’s an example of the type of character that Manchester United need at board level.
But Ashworth insists he’s happy in the north-east, and has no plans of leaving the Magpies.
‘I’m really happy here,’ Ashworth told the Guardian.
‘Newcastle is a brilliant city, club and project. I’m the same as Eddie, I think.
‘I’m thoroughly engaged in throwing myself into all three of those things and really enjoying the challenge.’
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to be keen on hiring a director of football when he takes a 25% stake in the club.
Richard Arnold and John Murtough have shared duties in recent years, but both face uncertain futures.
