striker Alexander Isak could return to the squad for Sunday’s Premier League clash against .
The Swede has missed the Magpies’ last two matches after sustaining a thigh injury on international duty, which saw him miss two matches for his country.
The 23-year-old has impressed since his £63million move from Real Sociedad last summer, which made him the club’s most expensive purchase.
The Magpies have maintained their good form in Isak’s absence, beating Fulham and Brentford.
Eddie Howe’s side have scored nine goals across those two matches and conceded just twice.
But Isak has been a miss regardless and the Daily Mail report that he’s recovering well from his thigh issue.
Should the Swede continue his recovery period- which has already seen him resume light training – Isak could take a place on the bench for Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford.
That would be a significant boost for Howe, who was hopeful last week that Isak’s injury wouldn’t keep him out for too long.
‘He’s running on grass, he’s increasing his speed so he’s in a good place but the medical team is just holding him back slightly so hopefully he won’t be too long,’ said Howe.
Erik ten Hag’s side have been on a good run of form, winning four of their last five matches in the Premier League.
The Red Devils’ only defeat was the 6-3 loss at the Etihad, which they followed up with an impressive 2-1 win against Everton.
