Paris Saint-Germain winger Neymar has slammed critics of his team-mate following the team’s Trophee des Champions triumph.
Ligue 1 champions PSG lifted the Trophee des Champions following a 4-0 victory over Coupe de France holders Nantes on Sunday with Messi and Neymar both getting on the scoresheet and the former crowned Most Valuable Player.
Messi opened the scoring midway through the first half before Neymar doubled the lead just before half-time, with the Brazilian adding a second from the penalty spot after former defender grabbed the third.
Messi and Neymar have enjoyed a long-term close relationship, having played together for in La Liga, with the latter moving to Paris in 2017.
Messi, meanwhile, joined PSG last year after playing 778 games for the Catalan giants, in which time he scored 672 goals and won countless trophies.
The 35-year-old Argentine has scored 12 goals in 35 games for PSG, helping them win last season’s French top-flight title after they missed out in 2020-21 to Lille.
However, he has faced criticism from some in France, which Neymar does not understand.
When asked if PSG’s Trophee des Champions win could mean a fresh start for Messi at the club, Neymar told Prime Video: ‘I don’t think so.
‘I think people talk too much. They don’t know what’s going on every day, what’s going on inside.
‘Leo, it’s Leo. It’s still Leo, it doesn’t change. No, he continues to make the difference. He adapts.
‘It is obvious that we hope that everything goes well for the three of us, for me, for Leo, for Kylian [Mbappe]. If the three of us are well, I’m sure it’s good for the team.’
Neymar added: ‘I’m satisfied, we had a very good match with the team.
‘It’s very important to start winning, it’s a match that ends in a trophy. Whatever happens, you have to win.’
