’s goalkeeper David de Gea has blasted his teammates after the Red Devils lost 1-0 at on Saturday.

United were favourites heading to Goodison Park and although they started well, with Toffees keeper making two great saves to deny , a first-half goal from Anthony Gordon rattled the away side and from then on Everton held firm to claim a vital three points.

Although United had won just one of their last six matches, they were fully expected to sweep aside a relegation-threatened Everton side who had lost six of their last seven league games.

This is the latest in a long line of embarrassing results United have suffered this season, and it leaves Ralf Rangnick’s side seventh in the table, three points off the top four despite having played a game more than rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking to BT Sport post-match, De Gea said: ‘We knew before today they were struggling and how difficult it was going to be.

‘We don’t score, we don’t even create proper chances to score. I don’t know what to say, to be honest. We’re not good enough, that’s for sure. It’s going to be very difficult now to be in the top four.

‘Of course, it’s not the perfect atmosphere. They were tired, they were nervous, but they keep going and keep fighting. They had more desire than us, which is not acceptable. It’s very sad to lose today.’

The Spanish shot-stopper has been one of United’s better players this season and will no doubt be demanding more of his teammates ahead of their next game when they host Norwich City at Old Trafford next Saturday.
