has questioned whether former star ‘wants to play football or ‘f**k about in the gym’ in a scathing post.
Lingard, a United academy graduate, left Old Trafford in 2022 after his contract expired.
The 31-year-old had a forgettable campaign with Nottingham Forest last season,
The former England international has been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia while Everton and Barcelona have also been credited with interest in his services.
Lingard is currently in Dubai and over the last seven days has shared footage and images of him in training on the pitch in a bid to keep his fitness up.
He also shared a series of images of him working out in the gym, catching the attention of United legend Scholes who savagely commented: ‘Are you gonna f**k about in the gm or are you actually gonna play football?’
Scholes’ post has since been deleted.
when the legendary midfielder revealed their conversations detailing just how bleak the atmosphere at United was at the time.
Ahead of Erik ten Hag’s arrival during Ralf Rangnick’s interim spell in charge, Scholes said: ‘I had a quick chat With Jesse [Lingard] the other day,’ Scholes told DAZN.
‘I’m sure he won’t mind be saying – that dressing room is a disaster.’
Since becoming a free agent after leaving Forest, Lingard trained with West Ham, where he enjoyed an excellent loan spell, and Al-Ettifaq under Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia but failed to agree a contract with either side.
He finished last season with just two goals and two assists for Forest under Steve Cooper, none of those coming in the Premier League where he started just 12 games.
Reports in Spain in recent days have suggested Lingard has been offered to Barcelona. The Catalan giants remain under severe financial strain with Lingard available on a free transfer.
