has suggested that he could his stay at longer than originally planned, with his current contract set to expire next year.

The Spanish manager said at the start of the season that he believed his spell with the Citizens was coming to an end and that he was hoping to have a rest from football before returning to manage a national team.

‘After seven years on this team, I think I’m going to have a stop. I’m going to have to take a break,’ said the 51-year-old back in August.

But in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s crucial clash with , Guardiola hinted that his time in England was not yet done.

He told reporters: ‘I’m under contract here, I’m so happy here — I’m not staying forever but I would stay forever.’

Guardiola has already spent more time with City than he has done with any other club, having managed boyhood club Barcelona for four years before taking a sabbatical and then joining Bayern Munich for three seasons.

And given his incredible success, City fans will be praying he does indeed stay forever or at the very least for a few more seasons.

Guardiola has already established himself as one of the greatest managers in English football history having won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup and four League Cups since arriving in Manchester in 2016.

He could yet add to that tally this season with the club still in contention to win the treble, which includes the Champions League, the trophy that City’s supporters and hierarchy desire the most.
