Porto are resigned to losing Diogo Costa this summer but will demand £66million for the target.

The goalkeeper, 23, has been on United’s radar for the last 18 months and the club have been impressed with his rapid progress at Porto.

Costa is now Portugal’s number 1 and he played all five of his nation’s fixtures at the last winter.

Costa’s precise kicking and ability with his feet, as well as a tendency to come off his line, has caught United’s eye.

David De Gea is enjoying a better season this term and he’s received praise from Erik ten Hag.

But United need a goalkeeper that’s more comfortable with the ball at his feet if they’re to play the way Ten Hag wants.

Costa certainly fits the bill in that regard and Portuguese outlet A Bola say Porto are resigned to losing their goalkeeper this summer.

However, Porto will not listen to any offers for Costa and will instead wait until a club triggers a £66m release clause in his contract.

Porto feel Costa is worth more than his release clause and will therefore not even entertain bids below it.

United, for their part, are said to be open to paying the £66m required as they share Porto’s view that Costa is potentially even more valuable.

De Gea has and United have opened talks with him over a new deal.

However, any deal he signs will be on far reduced terms than his current £375,000-a-week salary.
