Saint-Germain and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was reportedly the victim of a violent robbery in which he was tied up and attacked with thieves stealing €500,000 worth of jewellery and other items.

It is thought that several men targeted Donnarumma and his girlfriend overnight between Thursday and Friday in the eighth arrondissement of Paris, with the door of their home broken before a violent raid ensued, as per French media .

The 24-year-old and his partner Alessia Elefante, an interior designer, took refuge in a hotel near their home around 3.20am after being attacked and robbed and it is believed that Donnarumma has light injuries, while his girlfriend was unharmed.

The couple were taken to a hospital to recover from the shock of the incident and French police are investigating in an attempt to find the criminals responsible.

‘An investigation has been opened on charges of armed robbery in an organised gang and aggravated violence following the events that took place overnight at Mr Donnarumma’s place,’ a Paris prosecutor’s office spokesperson told the .

As well as the jewellery, it is thought that the thieves took watches and luxury leather goods, totalling around £430,000.

Donnarumma is not the first PSG player to be targeted by Paris gangs with Marquinhos and Angel Di Maria also burgled in recent years.

Donnarumma moved to PSG two years ago from AC Milan and is rated as one of the best goalkeepers in world football.

He has knocked up 54 caps for Italy and helped his country win Euro 2020, beating England in the final at Wembley and being named the Player of the Tournament.

Donnarumma has won two Ligue 1 titles with PSG, has made 72 appearances for the club and is set to travel to Japan with the squad tomorrow as planned for a pre-season tour.
