Rafael van der Vaart has warned ’s players they will ‘get thrown out’ if they do not ‘cooperate’ with incoming manager Erik ten Hag.
Dutch coach Ten Hag, 52, is set to take over at Old Trafford after at the Premier League club.
Manchester United interviewed Ten Hag and for the vacant position but have decided to make the former ’s permanent replacement.
has been in the role on an interim basis since November but his Red Devils team have struggled since Solskjaer’s sacking, with the German now set to move into a consultancy role at the Theatre of Dreams.
Ten Hag has won two Eredivisie titles since he took over in 2017 – his Ajax side are on course for a third league title this season – and Van der Vaart believes his move to Manchester is ‘nice’ for both parties.
However, the former Ajax and Netherlands star has warned the Manchester United squad that they are out of ‘excuses’ and must perform for Ten Hag or else they will be ‘thrown out’.
Speaking on , Van der Vaart said: ‘Ten Hag to Manchester United? It’s nice. You don’t let a club like Manchester United wait.
‘These players at Manchester United don’t have any excuses anymore. They made so many managers leave while they are playing so bad.
‘Now they get a manager who will be very clear and will present his plan. Those who won’t cooperate will get thrown out.’
Ten Hag will take over a Manchester United team who look set to miss out on the Champions League this season, with seeing them drop to seventh in the Premier League, six points outside the top four.
It was a perfect weekend for Antonio Conte’s Tottenham, who thumped Aston Villa and saw top-four rivals United, Arsenal and West Ham all lose.
Rating Manchester United’s top-four chances after their defeat at Goodison Park, Rangnick said: ‘It’s difficult – if we don’t win our own games it doesn’t make sense to hope for good results from the other teams.’
