Ralph Hasenhuttl dismisses Man Utd and Man City links to James Ward-Prowse

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has dismissed suggestions that captain James Ward-Prowse could leave the club this summer, amid reported interested from both and .

The 27-year-old has had a fantastic season with the Saints, enjoying his most prolific campaign to date, with nine Premier League goals from midfield and 10 in all competitions.

reported that incoming Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is a big fan of the England international and could launch a bid for him worth up to £75m.

is reportedly also keen to bring Ward-Prowse to Manchester City, but Hasenhuttl says these giant clubs can forget about it.

‘He has another four years on his contract here, he is happy here, he is our captain and he will stay here,’ the Austrian said.

‘We have him here as our captain and it is important that we are as a team successful and make steps forward. In this season we have shown in some moments that we can definitely play like a top 10 team, but there is still a few things missing.

‘We have a chance in the final three games and this is what we are looking at.’

Ward-Prowse has been awarded Southampton Player’s Player of the Season for the campaign, with every single one of his teammates voting for him, which is proof of his importance to the side.

‘It shows what an amazing job he has done this season so far, fans love him, we know how important he is for our team,’ said Hasenhuttl.

‘The development of his game is massive and this is the reason why he is a true winner. Goal of the season award, we had a few very good ones so it’s tough.’
