Calvin Bassey is reportedly attracting interest from with the four-time European champions poised to swoop for the defender.
Bassey, 22, would likely cost Alfred Schreuder’s Dutch champions around £20 million including add-ons.
But Ajax are cash rich after accepting a £48m bid from for defender Lisandro Martinez, while they have also raked in £30million from the sale of Sebastien Haller to Borussia Dortmund.
Bassey is on the radar of Europe’s top clubs after impressing in Rangers’ run to the final. Premier League side Brighton are also said to be keen on Bassey who Ibrox boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst is desperate to keep.
TalkSport’s transfer expert Alex Crook wrote: ‘Ajax could spend some of their Martinez windfall on Calvin Bassey. I understand are also monitoring the situation.’
Bassey cost just £230,000 two years ago from Leicester and with his deal up in 2024, the Ibrox club look set to cash in on another of their main assets.
However, Van Bronckhorst insisted this week the big defender should be in no rush to quit Ibrox. The Dutch boss has already lost top stars Nathan Patterson and Joe Aribo to England since he took over in Govan in November.
And he hopes the Nigeria international will continue his development at Ibrox. He said: ‘The development of Calvin last season was great. He can be really good.’
Meanwhile, Rangers are reportedly interested in signing Charleroi’s Algerian midfielder Adem Zorgane, 22.
