The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of the season, with United resisting the temptation to trigger a 12-month extension clause in his deal.

Varane was Ronaldo’s team-mate for close to a decade in Madrid, as well as 18 months at Old Trafford.
United hope to sign at least one centre-back in the summer, with Jean-Clair Todibo and Jarrod Brainthwaite on their wishlist.
