Real Betis players could start a crowdfunding campaign to help keep full-back Hector Bellerin at the club beyond this summer.

Bellerin joined Betis, the club he supported growing up, on a season-long loan deal last summer.

After a difficult last few years in north , the Spaniard found a new lease of life back in his homeland this season, rediscovering his form and helping Betis end their 17-year wait for silverware after lifting the Copa del Rey.

Bellerin was left in tears as he played his final home game for the club on Sunday in a 2-0 victory over Granada.

Bellerin’s loan deal does not include a purchase option but with just one year left on his Arsenal contract, the Spanish side are desperate to make the arrangement permanent.

Betis are likely to have a limited transfer budget this summer with Bellerin’s teammate Borja Iglesias proposing a crowdfunding option to help finance a deal to keep the full-back at the Benito Villamarín Stadium.

Hundreds of Betis fans have already vowed to put money in the pot to help keep Bellerin at the club.

With one year left on his contract in north London, Bellerin will return to Arsenal in the summer unless a deal is struck with Mikel Arteta recently suggesting he will still have a role to play next season.

‘Any player with a contractual obligation with us is our player and considered our player,’ Arteta told a press conference last month.

‘So every plan is considering that possibility [that Bellerin stays] and how they can fit into the team.’
