legend has recalled the time Lady Cathy Ferguson put Sir Alex in his place after a row with the defender.
, and tributes have been pouring in since for the lady by Sir ’s side for 56 years of marriage.
Lady Cathy famously convinced Sir Alex to reverse his decision to retire in 2002, which saw the Scot stay in charge of United for a further 11 years.
Ferdinand was Ferguson’s standout buy in his first since making a u-turn on retiring.
The defender arrived in a British transfer record deal from Leeds United, and he went on to become one of Ferguson’s best ever signings.
But Ferdinand was fined two weeks’ wages in 2012 after he refused to wear a Kick It Out t-shirt before a Premier League match against Stoke City.
Ferguson said his entire squad would wear the warm-up shirts, and he said afterwards that Ferdinand had ’embarrassed’ him by doing so, therefore fining him two weeks’ wages.
But Ferdinand has revealed that Cathy made Sir Alex realise he made a mistake.
‘It was the thing, when I didn’t wear the Kick It Out T-shirt because of the stuff that happened with Anton,’ said Ferdinand.
‘I said ‘I’m not wearing it’, they didn’t back my brother in the way I thought they should or back the case the way they should have done it.
‘He fined me two weeks’ wages straight after the game. Luckily we won, otherwise he would have Ki**ed me.
‘I went in the next day, I spoke to him and said to him ‘Listen…’ and he said ‘Do you know what, I wish you would have just told me, because I’ve gone into the press conference on the Friday speaking about it, everyone’s going to wear the T-shirt, they’re asking me and I’m saying all my team are wearing the Kick It Out T-shirt because that’s what we believe in. And you knew then you weren’t going to wear it and you never said anything to me.
‘You made me look a fool, but I spoke to my missus and she said to me ‘You never asked Rio what he was going to do, knowing what he’s been through with his family. So therein lies your mistake.’
