believes ‘ will regret selling ’ as his transfer to is completed.

On Wednesday, , bringing to an end his 18 year association with his boyhood club.

Given the 24-year-old’s close ties with the Blues, the move and especially his desire to leave have surprised many, especially as Chelsea and their new manager Mauricio Pochettino were keen to keep hold of him.

Chelsea have made numerous sales already this summer as they look to balance the books, but for the most part these have been players considered surplus to requirements like Kalidou Koulibaly and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

But Mount has been one of, if not Chelsea’s best player over the past few seasons, winning the Player of the Year award in 2021 and 2022, and playing a key role in their Champions League triumph.

United fans will certainly be happy to have strengthened in midfield, one of the key areas Erik ten Hag was looking to address this summer alongside getting a new striker and goalkeeper.

The price maybe high for a player who had just a year remaining on his contract but the Red Devils have also weakened a rival, and United legend Ferdinand is delighted with the business.

‘Really pleased with Mount coming in,’ he posted on as he reacted to the news.

‘Young, talented & hungry. He has the experience of big games with pressure which comes when playing for Utd.

‘As a player he will bring us goals, creativity, a work ethic & a willing runner into the opposition box. He definitely adds to what we have in the squad and is different from the others in midfield.

‘I actually think in time Chelsea will regret selling Mount. Now for a No.9….’

United’s quest to sign a new striker hit a stumbling block with a move for Mount’s England teammate Harry Kane aborted over Tottenham’s unwillingness to sell.

They remain closely linked with a number of different options, most prominently Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund.
