Declan Rice has aspirations to join a ‘bigger club’ and could become the ‘catalyst for the next generation’ if he joins .

That’s according to , who believes the England international could ‘lead the charge’ of United’s revival with a move to Old Trafford.

Rice has been the Hammers’ standout performer this term and the club are keen to tie him down to a new long-term contract.

However, the midfielder rejected the club’s last proposal and he’s keeping his options open, with United and both interested in his services.

RIce is valued at around £150m by West Ham but they’d rather keep the midfielder, and they hope that he will emulate Mark Noble by remaining at the club throughout his career.

But Ferdinand says Rice has more ambition and could join United, where he’d be the main figure.

‘It all depends on what wants to do with his career,’ Rio Ferdinand told the FIVE podcast.

‘If wants to do a Mark Noble and stay at one club in the Premier League – Declan Rice will be the captain for the next ten years if he wants. It’s there if he wants to do that

‘But I don’t think Declan Rice is Mark Noble. Declan Rice is someone who sees himself going to a bigger club, with all due respect to , and going to fight for honours in the Premier League.

‘You’ve got to ask Declan Rice a question; does he leave West Ham who are basically fighting Man United for the same position? If he does go to somewhere like United, (he could) be the catalyst for the next generation, for winning stuff, and you could lead that charge.

‘But if you want to win trophies right at this moment, there is a big question over that.’
