has warned against signing for this summer.

The England international’s future is the intense speculation and a departure from Ellan Road appears inevitable, especially if Leeds were to suffer what appears to be an increasingly inevitable relegation.

United have been heavily linked with a move for the 26-year-old with incoming manager Erik ten Hag desperate to strengthen a midfield which is likely to lose the services of , while the likes of Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard are certain to depart.

Transfer from Leeds to Man Utd

Joe Jordan – 1978, £350,000
Gordon McQueen – 1978, £500,000
Arthur Graham 1983 £65,000
Eric Cantona -1992, £1,200,000
Rio Ferdinand – 2002, £29,100,000
Alan Smith – 2004, £7,000,000

Only six players, however, have ever moved from Leeds to United, Ferdinand among them, and none since Alan Smith’s controversial move in the summer of 2004 after the Yorkshire club had dropped out of the Premier League.

Ferdinand, however, believes Phillips’ circumstances are drastically different to the scenario he found himself back in 2002 when he moved to Old Trafford in what was then a record £29million transfer.

He told his YouTube channel: ‘I don’t think Kalvin Phillips is a name that should be associated with Manchester United.

‘I just think he’s a Leeds boy. The rivalry between the fans, he’s family are all there. It’s different to when I left, I had no family in Leeds other than my cousin.

‘It wasn’t a problem for them. It was very different. I don’t see Kalvin Phillips going to Manchester United. If he does it will be the biggest surprise.’
