Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenny has jokingly suggested that could sign for the Welsh club after the forward helped his country qualify for the 2022 .

Wales beat 1-0 in Cardiff on Sunday to secure their place at the tournament that is due to be held in Qatar in November.

Bale was directly involved in the decisive goal, with Andriy Yarmolenko heading into his own goal while attempting to head clear the Welshman’s free-kick.

There was much speculation that had Wales failed to make it to the World Cup, Bale would announce his retirement from the game for good, but it is now likely that the 32-year-old will hang around for at least another season in order to keep fit ahead of the finals.

He will need to find a new club however, after leaving Real Madrid this summer at the end of his contract, bringing to an end his successful yet tumultuous nine-year spell in Spain.

And now, McElhenny has seemingly thrown Wrexham’s name into the ring as a possible destination for the world-class forward.

Responding to an ESPN UK tweet that asked: ‘Where will we see Gareth Bale next season?’, McElhenny cryptically replied: ‘I’ve got a few ideas.’

The actor and businessman took over the National League side last year alongside friend and fellow Hollywood superstar Ryan Reynolds, significantly raising the profile of the Welsh team who missed out on a return to the EFL this past season after losing in their play-off semi-final to Grimsby Town in dramatic fashion.

As incredible a story as it would be, it seems highly improbably that Bale would sign for a non-league club, but he has been linked with a return to another team in his homeland, with Championship side Cardiff City currently favourites to sign the free agent.

After Sunday’s game, the forward said that he had ‘loads’ of options to pick from this summer, and that certainly appears to be true with former club Tottenham and Newcastle reportedly in the running, and a move to the MLS also rumoured.
