are considering a move for Brighton’s Robert Sanchez as their search for a new goalkeeper continues.

has been their number one target to replace , but the Inter Milan stopper is proving to be too expensive with the Serie A side valuing him at between £40m-£50m.

report that as they look for cheaper alternatives, Sanchez has emerged on their radar, with Brighton unlikely to ask for more than £30m for the 25-year-old.

The Spain international fell down the pecking order at the Amex last season under Roberto De Zerbi, losing his place in goal to Jason Steele, while the Seagulls have bought a new ‘keeper in Bart Verbruggen this summer.

Sanchez has made just 90 Premier League appearances for Brighton, with his only other first team experience during loan spells at Forest Green Rovers and Rochdale. However, he has done enough to win two Spain caps.

Earlier this year former England goalkeeper David James backed Sanchez as the ideal long-term replacement for De Gea.

James told : ‘If you look around the Premier League for an alternative, there is one keeper who I do like, Robert Sanchez at Brighton. He is a young, capable goalkeeper, who with the right coaching I feel could be absolutely top drawer.

‘If United are looking for a replacement for him [De Gea], a player with Premier League experience, then I think Sanchez could be the guy. He has the potential to be an absolute monster.’

While De Gea’s contract has expired at Old Trafford, it is not out of the question that he could still sign a new deal with the club, depending on whether the Red Devils feel they can sign an improvement or not.
