Robert Firmino says he would like to stay at Liverpool despite speculation linking him with a move away from Anfield.
Firmino, 30, only has a year left on his contract and has become a bit-part player this season, making just 20 appearances in the Premier League.
A lack of game-time was reportedly frustrating the Brazilian as he sought a fresh start to relaunch his career, while Liverpool were believed to be thinking of cashing in on the forward.
However, speaking to , the Brazilian quashed talk of an exit, describing Liverpool as a ‘great club’.
He said: ‘I’m very happy here. I’m grateful to God that I’m here playing for a great club with great players, winning titles. And my will is to stay.
‘My wish is to stay here. I want to be here. I’m happy here. So that’s all I can say, I want to stay.’
Firmino has been one of Liverpool’s key players under Jurgen Klopp, forming part of a memorable front three alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
In 326 appearances for the Reds, he has scored 98 goals, while he has helped the Merseyside club win four major trophies.
However, the arrivals of Diogo Jota and Luiz Diaz in the last two years have resulted in Firmino slipping down the pecking order.
With Mane and Salah’s contracts also running out next year, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool are keen to give all three players new deals.
Jurgen Klopp has been praised for building a depth to Liverpool’s squad but the German has found it hard to keep all of his players happy.
Divock Origi is set to leave for AC Milan, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could also be allowed to depart this summer.
Meanwhile, Takumi Minamino’s future is up in the air, with the Japanese international regularly failing to make Liverpool’s bench.
