would be interested in the England job if it becomes available after the and he is still not back in a managerial role by then.

The 49-year-old was sacked as boss last month, with the new owners of the Blues looking to move in a different direction by appointing as boss.

Tuchel’s reputation in England is still good, though, after a pretty impressive spell in charge in west London, which saw him lift the Champions League trophy during his first season with Chelsea.

Having managed Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain before moving to Stamford Bridge, Tuchel is only looking for top jobs when he returns to football, already turning down offers from Bayer Leverkusen and two Premier League clubs since leaving Chelsea.

That will likely be one of the biggest clubs in a top European league, but the reports that he would also be interested in replacing Gareth Southgate as England manager if that became an option.

It would be an historic appointment by the Football Association as it would make Tuchel the first German to take charge of the England team and only the third foreigner after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

Southgate’s England contract runs until 2024, but it is certainly not out of the question that he could leave his post after the World Cup this winter.

He has been in charge for six years and after runs to the World Cup semi-final in 2018 and European Championship final last year, whatever the result in Qatar either he, the FA or both could feel that his time at the helm is at an end.

Tuchel will be high on the list of any top club who may be looking for a manager in the coming months, so it may be that he is back in a job before the England role next becomes available anyway.
