Barcelona continued their fine form on Sunday night as they beat Sevilla at the Camp Nou, but suffered a blow as Sergio Busquets limped out of the contest with an ankle injury.
The La Liga leaders comfortably beat Sevilla 3-0 with goals from Jordi Alba, Gavi and Raphinha as Xavi’s side go eight points clear at the top of the table.
Busquets lasted less than 10 minutes, though, as he was forced off with an ankle injury which left the veteran in serious pain.
The extent of the problem will be confirmed in the coming days, but it puts the midfielder in doubt to play against in the upcoming play-off games.
The Catalans host the Red Devils in the first leg on 16 February before traveling to Manchester on 23 February in the high-profile tie.
Busquets may be turning 35 this year but he remains an integral part of the Barcelona team, making 18 La Liga appearances so far this campaign, 16 of which came in the starting XI.
He has an immense record of avoiding injury, starting 36 La Liga games last season and playing in 36 La Liga matches the campaign before.
The injury is a blow for Xavi and Barca, but their superb run of results continues, with nine wins and a draw in their last 10 La Liga outings.
In all competitions they have won their last six matches, conceding just one goal in the process, so with or without Busquets they will be a serious test for Erik ten Hag’s side, despite their own good form.
