is close to agreeing a loan move from to Brentford for the rest of the season, but other clubs remain interested in the full-back.

The 27-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at , making 12 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions as he filled in for the injured and Tyrell Malacia.

It was a season-long agreement but now United’s permanent options at left-back are back, or close to being, in contention they have sent the Spaniard back to Spurs.

Ange Postecoglou is seemingly happy with his options at left-back as Reguilon now looks set for another loan exit from north London.

Transfer expert reports that talks over a move to Brentford are inthe ‘final stages’ although a decision is yet to be finalised by the player.

The report states that other clubs still hold an interest in loaning the former Real Madrid man, but the Bees are closest to securing a deal.

Thomas Frank has been hindered at left-back this season after a long-term injury to first-choice Rico Henry which is likely to see him sidelined for the entire campaign.

Reguilon has made 67 appearances for Tottenham since joining from Real Madrid in 2020, also spending time on loan at Atletico Madrid last season.

On their decision to cut his loan at Old Trafford short, Manchester United confirmed in a statement: ‘Sergio Reguilon is returning to his parent club Tottenham Hotspur after Manchester United activated a break clause in the loan agreement.

‘The Spanish left-back joined on a temporary basis last August and made a positive contribution during the first half of the season.

‘Sergio fulfilled the role he was brought in for: to provide cover for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia while both were out with long-term injuries. While Luke has missed the past two games with a minor injury, the England international is expected back soon. Tyrell, meanwhile, is getting closer to a return from his knee injury. The versatile Diogo Dalot can also provide further cover at left-back.

‘With fewer games in the second half of the season and injured players returning, there will be less opportunity for Sergio to play. It was decided it was in the best interests of all parties for Reguilon to return to Spurs. The 27-year-old defender leaves United with our appreciation for his contribution and best wishes for the future.’
