Spain goalkeeper Arnau Tenas had a moment to forget in the gold medal match at 2024, producing a bizarre howler, but his team still went on to beat France 5-3 in a crazy final.
In a heavyweight contest at the Parc des Princes the home nation was roared on against the Spanish, who are enjoying a fabulous after the senior team won the European Championship.
However, Spain had a bad start to the Olympic final, largely thanks to some bizarre goalkeeping.
Tenas, who came through the youth ranks at Barcelona but now plays for Paris Saint-Germain, was completely deceived by a seemingly tame effort from Enzo Millot.
The goalkeeper completely misread the effort, stepped out of the way and by the time he had realised his mistake it was too late and Millot had found the back of the net.
It was a disastrous moment for the 23-year-old but the Paris crowd went wild as Thierry Henry’s side took the lead.
The lead did not last long, though, and in fact Spain impressively did not seem fazed by the shocker from the stopper.
Millot put France ahead after 11 minutes but the Spaniards were ahead after 25 thanks to a brace from Fermin Lopez.
The Barcelona midfielder has a goal-scoring instinct, netting eight times in La Liga last season, and he showed it in Paris with two strikes to silence the crowd.
There was further delight for Spain just three minutes later when Villarreal star Alex Baena curled in a beautifully judged free-kick.
The home side rallied late, with Maghnes Akliouche pulling one back on 79 minutes and Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta netting a dramatic injury time equaliser to take the match to extra-time.
However, Spain ruined the party, as Sergio Camello rose from the bench to score twice and complete a wild 5-3 win.
