Liverpool are reluctant to enter the race to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

had earmarked strengthening his engine room as an absolute priority this summer following a below-par campaign for the Reds last term.

James Milner, Naby Keita and all left the club upon the expiration of their contracts, while there remains a measure of uncertainty over the futures of Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson.

The club captain and the former midfielder have both been attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, but Liverpool would prefer to retain their services, unless affordable replacements can be secured.

Liverpool have made an impressive start to their summer recruitment drive having already secured the services of both Alex Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

With Stefan Bajcetic, last season’s breakthrough star, set to step up his recovery following an untimely injury and Curtis Jones proving his worth by playing a more prominent role towards the end of last term Liverpool now look well stocked in midfield.

.

According to, however, Liverpool are not contemplating a move for the former Manchester City starlet at this stage given the asking price for a player who does not turn 20 until January, while they do not believe there is a gap in their squad present for a midfielder with his skillset.

Lavia, however, will not be short of suitors with Arsenal primed to make their move once the formalities of Declan Rice’s record transfer from West Ham are completed.

The Gunners will then raise funds through the sale of Granit Xhaka to Bayer Leverkusen and potentially the departure of Thomas Partey.

Chelsea will look to provide their north London rivals with competition for the Belgium international, meanwhile, but are treating the transfer of Moises Caicedo from Brighton as a priority.
