Kane travelled to Germany on Friday night for a medical and he had signed a deal until June 2027 and will wear the number nine shirt.

‘I’m very happy to be a part of FC Bayern now,’ Kane said.

‘Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I’ve always said that I want to compete and prove myself at the highest level during my career. This club is defined by its winning mentality – it feels very good to be here.’

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou had revealed on Friday that Kane’s move was ‘imminent’ after a breakthrough in negotiations between the clubs was reached on Wednesday night.

It left the ball in Kane’s court and , who will pay an initial £100m with add-ons potentially taking the deal up to an overall fee of £120m.

United, meanwhile, began the summer with high hopes of finally landing a player they have coveted for a number of years.

Erik ten Hag was desperate to bring in striking reinforcements following the departure of Crisitano Ronaldo midway through last season.

However, according to , the Red Devils cooled their interest amid a reluctance to become embroiled in a bidding war they felt they had little chance of winning.

Furthermore, United are said to have felt that even would they have been able to raise the finances required to strike a deal with Daniel Levy, Kane’s preference would still have been Bayern under the assumption they are better equipped to challenge for the Champions League.

United, instead, turned their attentions to signing Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta but the Denmark international’s debut is set to be delayed as a result of a back injury.

‘First of all we have chosen a striker and we are really happy with our choice,’ said Ten Hag ahead of Monday night’s game against Wolves.

‘(Kane) is a great striker that’s clear, he is a goal-maker. Apart from that he has all the conditions, abilities, you want to see. It is a miss for the  absolutely, we want to play the best.’

Asked if United had targeted Kane, Ten Hag said: ‘I don’t think I have to go into that discussion, to give an opinion about that.

‘We are professional, the process we do is really careful, we consider a lot of things, finally we make decisions. We don’t make decisions overnight, there is a strategy behind every decision, we are happy with our squad now.’
