Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has hit back at after the midfielder said he wanted to get revenge on the Reds in the final.

Chelsea booked their place in the final after defeating on Sunday, courtesy of goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mount, while Liverpool progressed to their first final in a decade after beating Manchester City 3-2 in the other semi.

If he features, it will be the fifth time Mount has appeared in a final at Wembley in the last two years and the 23-year-old has already proclaimed that this time he wants to be on the winning side under the famous arch after losing the first four.

‘It’s definitely time for us to win a final at Wembley,’ he said.

‘For me it is five finals, so we have to put the pressure on us to step up. We remember those defeats and now it is time to get payback.’

Mount finished runner-up in the FA Cup in 2020 and 2021, to Arsenal and Leicester City respectively, lost in the Carabao Cup Final to Liverpool on penalties earlier this season and he suffered more penalty heartbreak last summer during England’s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy.

While Mount does seem confident ahead of this year’s final in May, he and the rest of the Blues will have to be at their very best to defeat a Liverpool side which is chasing an unprecedented quadruple of trophies.

Enrique, who was part of the Reds side that lost to Chelsea in the 2012 FA Cup final, fired a warning shot at Mount on Twitter, saying: ‘This guy talks a lot. He did it to Toni Kroos as well [prior to Chelsea’s exit in the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid].

‘Let’s see what happens in the final. At the moment you already lost one against us this season. Come on Reds!!!’

Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel hailed Mount’s enthusiasm, saying: ‘Good. Yeah, good! Of course, we feel it [the need to get revenge].

‘If you call it revenge or something else, it doesn’t matter. But we all have this competitive feeling. That’s clear.’
