says the reason Trevoh Chalobah has been in and out of the side of late is due to a slight lack of consistency from the defender.
The Blues academy graduate has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Stamford Bridge following a number of loan spells away from the club.
While Chalobah started the season strongly, he has fallen down the pecking order of centre-backs and regularly found himself left out of the starting XI recently.
The 22-year-old did, however, start in Wednesday night’s 3-0 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road.
That appearance could boost his chances of landing a place in Tuchel’s FA Cup final side to take on Liverpool at Wembley on Saturday.
Tuchel is in no doubt Chalobah can deliver when called upon but has urged the defender to ‘stay humble’ and ‘hard working’.
‘He can deliver these performances and he played a lot, so there is no reason to be disappointed for him,’ said Tuchel after Chelsea’s win over Leeds.
‘He has an unbelievable amount of matches from the start [of the season] and we know this. It’s normal to have a bit of an up and down in terms of positive performance, that is normal.
‘We informed the team very late today who plays. He did maybe not expect it. It was the same against where he came in on short notice. In both matches he delivered. This is the level he can deliver.
‘It’s about consistency. He lacked it a little in the last weeks and we did some other choices which is normal. But he needs to stay humble, hard working and he can be a big part of it.’
